After about four months of selling out of each limited edition piece, I was able to afford a seamstress to work with me. I also found my business partner, Erin, who was able to take on the business side of the operation. Today, Hackwith Design House offers a wide collection of timeless designs and quality pieces that afford women to quite literally wear their values on their sleeves. Passionate about textiles since she was first gifted a sewing machine by her mother, she launched Hackwith Design House to produce limited edition fashion at affordable prices.

I chatted with the designer and Hackwith director of operations, Erin Husted, about their newly-minted studio space, the stories behind the brand and its Makers Alongside series, and what’s next for the ambitious designer. My first big project without a pattern was my own wedding dress. I couldn’t find a dress that really felt like me, so I decided to make my own. I’d only been sewing for a few months, so it was a big undertaking, but luckily, my client was very forgiving.

We've grown to offer additional lines including Core Collection, Swim, Basics, and Plus. Caylon Hackwith is a photographer, videographer, and art director. He began his career in art galleries and post-production studios fabricating large scale artworks for international exhibitions. He now produces images for architects, designers, hotels, and brands, as well as maintaining his own studio practice. He is perpetually seeking for a clean, minimal aesthetic that communicates beautifully and effectively. Although, he will always have a soft spot for the wild, bucolic landscape of his native Montana.

I made the dress out of white linen, and I got to make something that I really loved. There is actually a gown in the new line that has some similarities to it. Hopefully more of the bigger brands that don’t have shareholders to answer to will continue to lead the way in how the fashion industry can address its serious environmental and ethical problems. The eclectic 95-room property reflects the brand’s signature California quirkiness as well as an elevated European influence defined by an unexpected medley of pattern and texture. “I want it to feel layered and I also don’t want to make them too pretty,” Brosh says. “I try to create some reverence, even if it’s very bespoke.” Public spaces pop with eccentricities ranging from wallpapered ceilings and custom millwork in the café and lounge to custom tiles and a Moroccan aesthetic on the patio.

Lisa Yes, we think being size inclusive is related to sustainability. As women, our bodies go through so many changes in our lifetime. We hope that HDH can be a brand present for those changes for our customers. And that they can use our circular apparel project, The Sustain Shop, when they outgrow or move on from a piece.
